THE POWER OF THE MEDIA CENTER IN YOUR LANGUAGE LEARNING

In today’s world most people are looking to learn a second language and with good reasons: to have competitive advantage professionally, to be able to utilize the opportunities that come with the knowledge of a new language and to better communicate with the world.

The Case of Alliance de Kampala….

Since 1956, the French Alliance in Kampala (AFK) aims to promote French and the rich and diverse culture of the French. Indeed, the AFK is the only learning center in Uganda certified and authorized to offer certificates and degrees in the French Language. In addition, AFK boasts of a media center with a large number of various materials in French (books, magazines, newspapers, comics, DVDs, CDs, etc) to facilitate the learning process.

In order to keep abreast with the users’ needs, regular research is to be carried out through questionnaires to visitors, teaching staff and the students.

“I often come to the media center to find out complementary documents for my lessons because there is free access to the internet…I always find [quickly] what I need…” said one of the French Trainer in AFK. You are therefore invited to check out interesting materials that will also help you as well.

Media Center, a place of exposure and promotion…

As part of promoting the media center, events around the books/ author, literary critics would be organized periodically.

What about the youth?

The Media Centre also attracts young audiences (children and adolescents) who are eager to learn the French language. More specific activities tailored to attract the young French learner are being planned to encourage the young person to use the media center often.
